Student Transfers

Transfers are required for students to attend a school other than their “neighborhood school” (the school assigned based on the parent/guardian’s legal address of residence.)  There are two main types of transfers:

*In-District:  transfers within Bethel School District

*Inter-District:  transfers between Bethel School District and another district (i.e. Eugene 4J, Junction City, Fern Ridge)

The first round of application requests have been completed and we are now taking applications for the second round of transfer requests, due on or before August 1, 2020 to be considered for the 2020-21 school year.

IN-DISTRICT TRANSFERS

The In-District Transfer process applies to Bethel School District residents who wish to attend a different school within the District.  All resident students need to be enrolled in their neighborhood school before submitting a transfer request.  Transfers will be honored for as long as the student attends their approved school.  A new transfer request must be submitted once a student moves from one school to another (elementary to middle, middle to high school, etc.)  Transfers are also contingent upon the student meeting attendance and behavioral expectations.

The first round of application requests have been completed and we are now taking applications for the second round of transfer requests, due on or before August 1, 2020 to be considered for the 2020-21 school year.

In-District Transfers will be evaluated on several factors including attendance, behavior, and the space available. There are no guarantees of approval. Please review the transfer policies and criteria and read the application form carefully before submitting. Incomplete transfer requests may be denied without consideration or appeal.

Smiling students.

INTER-DISTRICT TRANSFERS

The Inter-District Transfer process applies to non-Bethel residents who wish to transfer into Bethel School District, or to Bethel resident students who wish to transfer to other districts. The Inter-District Transfer process does not apply to current Bethel resident students who wish to transfer to a school within Bethel School District (see In-District Transfer information above.)

The Inter-District Transfer process is governed by state laws as well as district policies. There have been recent changes to state laws regarding transfers between districts. Inter-District Transfers require that the student’s home district consent to the transfer. If a transfer request into our district is approved, Bethel will then contact the student’s home district to seek consent to the transfer.

Transfers will be honored for as long as the student attends their approved school. A new transfer request must be submitted once a student moves from one school to another (elementary to middle, middle to high school, etc.)  Transfers are also contingent upon the student meeting attendance and behavioral expectations.

Inter-District Transfers will be evaluated on several factors, especially the space available. There are no guarantees of approval. Some Bethel schools may not have space available to accommodate out-of-district students because Bethel residents have priority for any openings. Incomplete transfer requests may be denied without consideration or appeal.

OTHER TRANSFERS

Students who are experiencing homelessness should contact their school counselor or principal to determine if they qualify for support through provisions of the McKinney-Vento Homeless Education Assistance Improvements Act.

Transfer applications requested for emergencies and hardships are subject to available space and are evaluated on a case-by-case basis.

TRANSPORTATION

Transportation of students on transfers is the responsibility of the transferred student and family. Students will be allowed access to transportation if they can get to an existing Bethel bus stop on an established route for the school they will be attending.
